Projects
Following an evaluation of its activities to date, the Foundation is committed to bringing a sharper focus to its support and promotion activities in public urban spaces. These activities can be assigned to the individual core themes of the Foundation – light, green or developed space - or simultaneously to more than one of these themes.
Illumination concept for Uelzen
Smaller towns can also profit from the know-how of the „Lebendige Stadt” Foundation
Uelzen, located in the Nordheide region of Germany and known for, among other things, its Hundertwasser railway station, wanted to further enhance its image as a city of culture. Plans were drawn up for a permanent lighting installation to artistically showcase selected buildings in the city centre. As part of the concept developed by Hamburg-based light designer Michael Batz, who is also a member of the Executive Board of the "Lebendige Stadt" Foundation and who has already implemented lighting projects in many cities throughout Europe, a trial illumination took place in September 2003 to highlight several buildings including the Town Hall, the Church of St. Mary, the Propstei church building and the church courtyard. The public response was unanimously positive, and the illumination concept has now been permanently installed.
