Projects

Following an evaluation of its activities to date, the Foundation is committed to bringing a sharper focus to its support and promotion activities in public urban spaces. These activities can be assigned to the individual core themes of the Foundation – light, green or developed space - or simultaneously to more than one of these themes.

Research project in Cologne

In Cologne, the “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation” is supporting a project for the strategic expansion of the green belt around the “cathedral city”.

The focus is on the development of a new wooded area in the environs of the city and an overall concept for new utilization ideas for areas like these in years to come.

Within the framework of the "Regionale 2010" campaign launched by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the goal is to create new urban green and wooded spaces to connect Cologne's "green rings" to the environs of the city. This project is scientifically underpinned by an expert workshop on the topic of forest utilization, the development of a strategy for a coordination and consultation procedure to implement ideas for wooded areas and the compilation of documentation designed to help cities decide how to secure and develop unused spaces and green areas within their civic boundaries.
