Projects

Following an evaluation of its activities to date, the Foundation is committed to bringing a sharper focus to its support and promotion activities in public urban spaces. These activities can be assigned to the individual core themes of the Foundation – light, green or developed space - or simultaneously to more than one of these themes.

Nürnberger Weg: Social Network for Home Care

The foundation supports the “Nürnberger Weg” project, which was selected by the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs from 500 applicants,

This project creates sustainable and assignable solutions providing home services to older people with disabilities who need care. The project provides a central point of contact that brings together providers of various forms of aid and refers them to people in need. Its aim is to prevent costly relocations to inpatient care facilities and alleviate the pressure on public coffers.

As demographics change and public monies dwindle, deficits are growing in the area of home care for people in need of help. The aim of the “Nürnberger Weg” project is to develop a network for general home-based care that draws on multiple projects and sponsors. It enables people, including those at an advanced age, to continue living at home – even if they need care, have disabilities, or are seriously ill – and allows them to continue to play an active role in society. On average, half of the inhabitants of inpatient care facilities are dependent on supplementary social assistance. This means that avoiding moving people into nursing homes can also help to alleviate the burden on public funding over the long term.
