Projects
Following an evaluation of its activities to date, the Foundation is committed to bringing a sharper focus to its support and promotion activities in public urban spaces. These activities can be assigned to the individual core themes of the Foundation – light, green or developed space - or simultaneously to more than one of these themes.

Fortress Radeln – Shelter for children
The musician Peter Maffay creates a refuge for traumatized children with his foundation in the Rumanian village Radeln in Siebenbürgen in which 700 inhabitants live.
In a first step, the vicarage and the adjoining buildings are renovated. In the therapeutic holiday home, up to 14 children with physical and mental problems will fi nd shelter for around 2 weeks together with their supervisors. However, it will be an international place of encounters. Apart from children from Rumania also children from abroad will be hosted. Model is the holiday home which the Peter Maffay foundation established on Mallorca.
Radeln is characterized by migration, unemployment, poverty, insufficient infrastructure, and lack of perspectives. At the same time, it incorporates great potentials due to its wonderful landscape and untouched nature. Apart from the construction of the holiday home, the renovation of the fortress as protection-worthy cultural heritage is planned. This is to send the sign for the reconstruction of their village to the citizens of Radeln.
Among others, the supply and disposal system and medical support need an extensive and intensive general overhaul. The “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation supports this project of the Peter Maffay foundation.
