Award set up by the Foundation
The “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation presents a Foundation Award each year in recognition of innovative civic projects such as particularly outstanding cultural and civic marketing events, successful city displays comprising elements such as light, sound and water (as temporary or permanent installations), and projects in the field of building conservation and tourism, especially if these are of cultural or artistic value.

"ART CAN EVERYWHERE: How Can Cities Create Space for Culture in Times of Corona?"
The "Lebendige Stadt" Foundation calls on cities, municipalities and cultural institutions to enter for the 2021 Foundation Award.
The award is open to initiatives of cities and municipalities who repurpose public areas that are still generally ignored and under-used in order to create space for creative artists and cultural events under corona-compliant conditions (such as foyers, green spaces, courtyards etc.). A further key aspect is the way in which this provision of public spaces is institutionalised by the city or municipality and potentially integrated in a longer-term concept. This would ensure that local people will still be able to experience creativity and culture, that the work of creative artists remains visible, and that unused spaces can serve as places of encounter and education, even during the corona pandemic.
The Foundation seeks to promote best practice examples that can serve as models for other cities and municipalities This is why particular importance is attached to creative and innovative solutions.
